Maxi-Cosi
CabrioFix i-Size Baby Car Seat
8.3/10 overall£175.00
A lightweight, 3.2kg i-Size infant carrier suitable from birth, compatible with a wide range of ISOFIX bases.
At 3.2kg, this is one of the lightest infant car seats on the market, and that weight matters far more day-to-day than it might seem on a spec sheet — clicking it in and out of the base, carrying a sleeping baby from car to house without waking them, hauling it through a supermarket car park in the rain. It clicks onto a wide range of ISOFIX bases and pushchair travel systems (Maxi-Cosi's own and several third-party ones), which makes it a genuinely flexible choice if you already own or are considering a compatible pushchair, since it can click straight onto the frame without needing a separate car seat adaptor for every system.
Against the Cybex Cloud T in this category, the core trade-off is comfort and price versus convenience and cost. The Cloud T rotates and reclines properly flat, letting a newborn lie in a genuinely comfortable position for longer car journeys, which the CabrioFix — fixed, semi-upright — cannot match. What the CabrioFix gives up in recline, it makes up for in weight, price (roughly half the Cloud T's cost) and sheer ease of use for short, frequent journeys, which is what most car seat use actually consists of for most families.
This is the sensible default for most people: affordable, light, compatible with a huge range of systems, and perfectly adequate for typical journey lengths — school run, shops, visiting family nearby. If you are planning regular long car journeys, are particularly concerned about a newborn's flat-lying position during travel, or simply want the more premium in-car experience, the Cybex Cloud T's rotation and recline genuinely earn their higher price for that specific use case.
The one real limitation is recline: because it does not lie flat or rotate, longer journeys mean your newborn spends more time semi-upright than car-seat safety guidance ideally recommends for extended trips, and for a rear-facing infant seat, clicking a heavy carrier in and out without a rotating base is more of a physical faff, particularly if you are doing it alone in a tight parking space.
