I've been writing software since I was 13 and working professionally as a software engineer since 2009 — I'm currently a Head of Engineering, leading a team of more than 20 engineers across backend, frontend, and infrastructure. That background is exactly why I built this site the way I did: every product here is scored against a weighted rubric specific to its category, not a generic star rating, because that's how I'd want the data presented to me.
My wife and I are expecting our first baby, and between us we've already got four nieces and nephews — so we've watched this stage of life up close plenty of times, just never lived it ourselves until now. This site is us going through it properly, in public, with the same level of research I'd put into any technical decision at work.
I'm not a doctor, midwife, or health visitor, and nothing on this site is medical advice — where a claim is about health or safety, we cite the NHS or another authoritative source rather than giving our own opinion, and you'll find those sources linked at the bottom of every guide.
One thing I want to be upfront about: we're building this site ahead of our baby actually arriving, so most of what's here right now is built from research and published manufacturer specifications, not hands-on use. Every product page carries a clear badge — "Hands-on tested by us" or "Not yet hands-on tested" — so you always know which you're reading, and scores are never inflated to compensate for something we haven't used yet. As we buy, get sent, and actually use products, that badge updates and the review gets rewritten with what we found.
How we review
Every product is scored against specific, weighted criteria for its category — not a generic one-size-fits-all rubric — shown in full on the product page. Products we're sent for free are disclosed and scored exactly the same as anything we buy ourselves; being sent something never buys a good score.
