Pregnacare
Pregnacare Original
7.7/10 overall£12.99 (30 tablets)
The UK's best-selling pregnancy supplement, with 19 nutrients including folic acid and vitamin D for every stage of pregnancy.
Pregnacare Original is the default most people reach for once a positive test appears, and for good reason: 19 nutrients dosed to NHS pregnancy recommendations in a single daily tablet, sold in every pharmacy and supermarket, with a formulation midwives will recognise without you needing to explain what it is. There is nothing experimental here — it is the safe, well-trodden option, which for a lot of first-trimester decision fatigue is exactly the point.
The trade-off against Seven Seas' Omega-3 duo pack is where it gets more interesting. Pregnacare keeps everything in one tablet, which is simpler to remember, but it does not include a dedicated DHA omega-3 dose the way Seven Seas does — if brain and vision development support is a priority for you, you would need to add a separate omega-3 supplement on top of Pregnacare, whereas Seven Seas builds that in from the start. What Pregnacare has going for it is familiarity, availability and a slightly more complete general nutrient spread beyond omega-3.
This suits people who want the straightforward, most widely recommended option and are not particularly focused on omega-3 supplementation specifically, or who are already eating oily fish regularly and getting DHA that way. If omega-3 is a priority — for brain and vision development, or because you do not eat much fish — the Seven Seas duo pack (or Pregnacare Original plus a separate omega-3 capsule) is worth considering instead.
The realistic downside, and the one that comes up most in the first trimester specifically, is the tablet size: it is on the larger side, and taking it on an already queasy stomach is genuinely unpleasant for some people during weeks 6-12. If nausea is bad, taking it with food, splitting the dose, or trying it at a different time of day (some people find bedtime easier than morning) all help, but it is worth knowing upfront that swallowing it is not always effortless during the roughest patch of early pregnancy.
