The verdict

The Nuby IcyBite Keys Gel-Filled Teether, around £4, is a sealed, water-filled ring safe to chill in the fridge (not the freezer) for genuine cooling relief on inflamed gums, suitable from 3 months. It's the most targeted option here for a flare-up day, but the sealed unit must be discarded immediately if punctured and it needs fridge space and planning ahead.

This is the more clinically targeted option next to something like Sophie la Girafe: a sealed, water-filled ring designed to be chilled (fridge, not freezer) so it delivers genuine cooling to inflamed gums rather than just something to bite on. For a baby mid-flare-up with visibly swollen gums, the cooling effect noticeably calms the biting and fussing in a way a room-temperature rubber teether doesn't.

The ring shape also means multiple textured surfaces and grip points, which helps babies rotate it to different sore spots on their own rather than relying on a caregiver to reposition a single chewable surface.

The trade-off is durability and hygiene: it's a sealed unit, so if it's ever punctured (a real risk with older, harder-biting babies) it should be thrown away immediately rather than repaired, and it needs fridge space and forward planning that a rubber teether doesn't. It's also not suitable for the freezer, which some parents miss on the packaging and use incorrectly, risking an overly hard surface for young gums.

Frequently asked questions

How does the Nuby Ice Gel Teether help with teething pain?+

It's a sealed, water-filled ring designed to be chilled in the fridge so it delivers genuine cooling to inflamed gums, which noticeably calms biting and fussing for a baby mid-flare-up compared with a room-temperature rubber teether that has no cooling effect at all.

Can I put the Nuby Ice Gel Teether in the freezer?+

No — it's fridge-safe only, not freezer safe. Freezing it despite the packaging is a common mistake that risks an overly hard surface for young gums, which is the opposite of the gentle cooling relief it's designed to provide.

Is the Nuby Ice Gel Teether safe if it gets punctured?+

It's a sealed unit, so if it's ever punctured — a real risk with older, harder-biting babies — it should be thrown away immediately rather than repaired, since there's no way to safely reseal the water-filled gel core.

Is the Nuby Ice Gel Teether easy to clean?+

Yes, it's dishwasher safe on the top rack, making it straightforward to keep clean between fridge-chilling sessions alongside the rest of your baby's feeding and teething equipment.
