The Cocoon swaddle bag combines two things some swaddles handle separately: secure arm swaddling via a wrap-around wing design, and a roomy, hip-healthy bottom half that lets legs move and bend naturally into the recommended 'frog' position, in line with hip dysplasia prevention guidance. It's made from a TOG-rated, breathable bamboo-cotton blend, which matters for temperature safety — the NHS Safe Sleep guidance is clear that overheating is a risk factor, and TOG-rated sleepwear removes the guesswork of how many extra layers to add.

Against Love To Dream's Swaddle UP, both prioritise arm freedom in slightly different ways: Swaddle UP's arms-up design lets a baby bring hands to their face to self-soothe, while the Cocoon's wing wrap gives a snugger, more traditional swaddle feel some newborns settle into more easily in the earliest weeks. Many parents move from a snugger 1.0 Tog wrap style toward an arms-up design as the startle reflex fades.

What we liked

  • Roomy, hip-healthy bottom half alongside secure arm swaddling
  • Breathable TOG-rated fabric removes guesswork on overheating risk
  • Snug wrap style some newborns settle into more easily than arms-up designs

Where it falls short

  • Snug arm design needs transitioning away from once the startle reflex fades
  • Sizing needs replacing more often than adjustable swaddles as baby grows
  • Zip-up design less adjustable mid-feed than a traditional swaddle blanket

How we scored it

Self-Soothe / Arms Freedom

Whether the design lets baby get a hand to their face to self-settle, versus fully restricting arm movement.

6/10

Snug arms-in design is soothing for many newborns but doesn't allow hands-to-face self-settling like arms-up styles.

Safety & Hip-Healthy Fit

Room for natural hip and leg movement and overall adherence to safe-sleep guidance.

9/10

Roomy, hip-healthy bottom half well aligned with hip dysplasia prevention guidance.

Value & Longevity

How many months of use you realistically get before baby outgrows or rolls out of it.

7/10

Good quality for the price, though sized fairly tightly to the newborn weeks.
