The Reef is built as a full modular system: a carrycot for early newborn sleep, a forward- or parent-facing pushchair seat for when baby can sit up, and compatibility with Silver Cross's own infant car seats (plus several third-party ones via adaptors), meaning one chassis can realistically take you from birth through to around age 3-4 without buying a second pushchair.

Against the Bugaboo Fox 5, the Reef is the more budget-conscious modular option — a similar breadth of configurations for meaningfully less money — but it's a heavier chassis and the fold is less refined one-handed, which matters more if you're regularly lifting it in and out of a car boot alone.

The carrycot's flat lie is genuinely good for early newborn naps out and about, in line with safer-sleep flat-lying guidance for very young babies, and the seat unit reclines fully flat too, so the whole system supports proper lie-flat sleep for longer than pushchairs that only offer a reclining (not flat) seat.
