The verdict
The Lindam Sure Shut is a pressure-fit, solid-wood safety gate around £40 with a one-handed catch, quick to install and move between rooms without wall damage. Its wooden frame gives it a warmer look than metal-and-mesh alternatives, but like other pressure-fit gates it's not suitable for the top of stairs — only doorways and the bottom of stairs.
The Sure Shut Deluxe is a pressure-fit gate — it wedges into a doorway or stairway opening using tension rather than screws, which means no drilling and an easier reinstall if you move it between rooms. Its solid wood frame and one-handed catch are aimed at doorways and the base of stairs rather than the top, where pressure-fit gates generally aren't recommended.
Against the Safety 1st Easy Close gate in this category, the two are broadly similar pressure-fit designs; the Lindam's wooden frame gives it a warmer look that some parents prefer to Safety 1st's metal-and-mesh construction, while Safety 1st's mesh panel gives a slightly clearer sightline through the gate.
