The biggest decision in this category is how long you want your child rear-facing, because that alone splits these six seats into two groups. If you want to keep your child rear-facing for as long as possible — guidance from independent crash-test bodies like Sweden's Plus Test favours this — the BeSafe Stretch² is the strongest option tested, or the Axkid Movekid if budget rules out the Stretch²'s price. Want one seat for the whole journey with no repurchase, the Joie Every Stage R129 is the standout: highest-scored here and the cheapest by a distance, trading some rear-facing longevity for that convenience. Already past the rear-facing stage, the Cybex Pallas G3's impact shield suits a wriggly toddler who resists a harness, the Britax Römer Advansafix Pro is the pick for genuine side-impact hardware through to the booster stage, and the Maxi-Cosi Titan Pro2 is the safer bet if you'd rather fit with ISOFIX and a support leg than a seatbelt alone.
